Thirty-eight-year-old London based architect and designer, Umut Yamac graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL with a distinction in design and went on to work for a number of internationally renowned architects and designers before founding his own practice in 2011. His design aesthetic centers around the principals of minimalism and is characterized by his use of folded paper and brass as main materials.
The Perch Light series was inspired by the simple elegance and beauty of a bird sitting on its perch. The lamp takes the form of an abstract bird made from paper and brass, which appears to be delicately balanced on its metal perch. The bird is illuminated by the energy that flows through the perch and slowly swings back and forth when activated by wind or a touch. The lamp comes in four different variations: a floor lamp, table lamp, wall light, and ceiling lamp. That last one is the only variation that consists of multiple birds, creating the peaceful, poetic effect of a group of birds sitting on a tree branch.
