Humor and simplicity: contemporary lamps from Design House Stockholm

Design House Stockholm describes itself as a publisher of Scandinavian design, rather than a producer in the traditional sense. They ask designers to contribute to Design House Stockholm with their own style and vision. A refreshing strategy. We selected our favorite lamps within the collection.

‘Scandinavian’ is interpreted as a philosophical and aesthetic quality of design, rather than a geographical location. But how to describe this philosophy and aesthetic? To us, the designs of Design House Stockholm are characterized by a timeless simplicity, but also a sense of humor. The lighting designs shown below, are often exaggerated shapes that become a parody of iconic objects. The Form Pendants are a good example: this design can be seen as a parody of industrial light bulbs. The Mañana Lamp is almost like a comic future, leaning against the wall.
