The story behind the birth of this design classic is as iconic as the design itself: Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) designed the Eclisse lamp in 1967, while traveling in the Milan underground, on the back of a metro ticket. By combining three globes in one object, Magistretti managed to design a small lamp that images a full moon to total eclipse and all stages in between: the moon in a room. This idea is obviously a sign of the times since the space age design movement hadreached a climax and people were dreamingabout space-travel; dreams that became reality two years later, with the first moon landing in 1969.
Archiproducts recently re-issued a special edition of this iconic lamp (click on the images to visit their webshop).
